Road Trip!
As you can see, the love has faded.
So of course, since I've never heard of mail order, I'll have to run up to the city to get a new supply of t-shirts. I don't know whether I'll be able to post, but I'll give it a try. I have some fun stuff planned for you for the next few days, but there are still a few Squarespace bugs to work out (support has really been working hard on it), so things may look a bit weird around here for the next few days. I'll return to a somewhat normal regimen on Monday. I hope.
Woo Hoo!

Yesterday was a record day here at Miss Cellania, thanks to some European site I couldn't read that linked Cats of the Week, Neatorama, which linked Things That Change After College, and reddit, where The Turtle Man did really well. Really, really well. I've been getting one to two thousand hits a day for years, then yesterday had a bit over 28,000. In one day. That's overwhelming, to say the least! Thanks, y'all!
Normal Programming to Resume
Ah HA! I'm back online, sooner than expected. Thanks for your patience. The untimely death of my old Mac Mini, after exactly three years of backbreaking labor and a lingering illness, left me completely out of touch with the world for a little while. But I now have a new Mac Mini with extra RAM installed. Thanks to Brother Bill, who drove me to Knoxville to pick up a new one at the Apple Store. Yes, I could've gone by myself, but he LIKES to go to the Apple Store. Also thanks to one of my fine employers, who generously gave me some funds to offset the unexpected expense.
The bad news is that the old CPU refuses to give up the files on my hard drive. That means I've lost all my joke files, html codes, bookmarks, pictures, and some rather important software. I'm rebuilding from scratch, which means things may be a bit slow around here til I find my bearings. There may also be some reruns, but only the visitors who've been around for years would notice. My brother took the old unit, supposedly to consult with other geeks about retrieval, although I have my suspicions that this year's Fourth of July Computer Trap Shoot might feature a Mac Mini.
The good news is that I can type at normal speeds, and pages even load like they should with broadband. Using this new setup is a pleasure, so I'll be working hard to bring you some quality time wasters. Thanks for all the kind messages (I'm glad I have web-based mail) and for hanging in there.
OH NOOOOO!
My computer suffered a fatal seizure Saturday. I am ordering a new one to replace it, but I won't be online for a couple of days. Meanwhile, check out the archives, or any of the sites on my blogroll. Or check out the even more extensive blogroll at Miss C Recommends.
Normal programming will resume when possible. We regret any inconvenience.
Progress Report
So the first week of the new format here is almost at an end. Its kept me busy, but I think in the long run this will work out better than just one long post a day. I was surprised at how suddenly things took off! The post You know you're from California if... was submitted to Digg, which brought quite a bit of traffic, and Neatorama, which brought way more. Today is already my biggest traffic day ever! That's almost scary, because I can imagine my bandwidth expenses going up while ad revenue stays the same. But I'll deal with that if it happens. I also got called a homophobic racist bitch. So I'll make a note to start reading these jokes before I post them. But at least people are commenting, which hasn't happened in a while.
One of my planned projects is to restructure the archives to make it easy to find something. No doubt I'll be the only one looking, but I'm going to sort the old posts in a way that you'll be able to find a pirate joke when you want it, or links on flamingos, or whatever. It's a work in progress.
Thanks to all of you, both the old hands that always stop here and the new folks here for the first time. To the new folks, no, I don't write most of these jokes, I just pass them along. And I really appreciate the comments, no matter where you leave them!
Perfect Post and Weblog Awards
It was easier than usual this month to select my Perfect Post Award recipient. Andrew from The Gunsmoke Files doesn’t write often, but when he does, it’s always good. In his post Gimme Shelter he matter-of-factly gives his observations on the homeless in Denver. He didn’t get overly emotional, which just made what he had to say more compelling. See the entire list of October Perfect Post Awards at Petroville and at Suburban Turmoil.
The finalists in the 2007 Weblog Awards have been named. Quite a few of my friends and favorites made the cut! They are: The Presurfer for Best Blog, deputy dog for Best New Blog, Jon Swift and Boobs, Injuries, and Dr. Pepper for Funniest Blog, xkcd and Basic Instrucions for Best Comic, Fark for Best Online Community, Shakesville for Best Liberal Blog, NYC Educator for Best Education Blog, Bad Astronomy Blog for Best Science Blog, and Crooks and Liars for Best Video Blog. Congratulations to all! See the list of finalists here.
Update: Congratulations to Jesus’ General, Driftglass, Simply Left Behind, and Konagod, who are all finalists in the Ecosystem categories, which were announced after I posted this yesterday.
BOBs Winners!
The winners of the BOB Awards have been announced. Congratulations to Monty for winning Best Podcast and NYC Educator for winning Best Educational/Homeschooling Blog! Konagod came in second for Best GLBT Blog, and Omegamom came in third for Best Infertility/Adoption Blog. Way to go!
Blogiversary
Its my Blogiversary! Yep, Miss Cellania has been around a year now. I’ve had lots of fun getting here, as well as a few adventures, and some really strange and unexplained ghosts in my site, the kind even ubergeeks can’t exorcise. I regularly joke that I started blogging to meet guys. The truth is, I started blogging as therapy. It became a hobby, and then became my social life. Don’t frown on that; what it replaced was no social life at all!
As is the custom in the Blogosphere, I’ll reprint my first post, from August 22nd, 2005.
Welcome to Miss Cellania
I love reading other folk’s blogs, so I’ve been toying with the idea of having my own. I’m a single working mother, so what I REALLY need is another hobby to take up all that spare time. I’m neither a gifted nor a prolific writer (though some may argue with the prolific part), and the everyday events of my life are nothing to write home about. Well, maybe the home folks care, but not the general public. And I KNOW no one cares about my opinions, though I have some. There is no broad field of interest I am an expert in. And I sometimes end a sentence with a preposition. So I will try to keep the personal rambling short, and devote this blog to fun stuff that you may enjoy. Contributions are welcome, so if you come across anything interesting, email me. Let me know if I can use your name.
To start things off, here is one of my favorite music videos. Also here is a really strange and difficult game. I've just started trying to figure it out. So far, I've crashed it, burned it, and punctured it. A real time-waster.
Thought for Today- The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

Really smacks you in the face, doesn’t it? Pfft! But I’m glad to have an opportunity to repost it. The poor thing died in the process of importing files to Squarespace. It never made it over here. A couple days into this project, I started to get into the swing of things. In fact, Wedding Announcements from August 24th is probably still one of the funniest things I’ve ever published. Any highlights after that I put in a file called Popular Posts, which can always be found in the sidebar to the right. Also, at the end of every month I post the “best links” of the month. In the older archives, these were posted at the first of the next month. I changed it when I figured out how little sense that made. Its been a really good year, and getting better all the time! I’ve met some wonderful people (you know who you are), of all ages and backgrounds, from all over. And this site is steadily growing... I’ve had more visitors in the last three months than I had in the first whole nine months! Just in the last month, I was invited to join the team at Yesbutnobutyes, done a co-blogging project with Neatorama, and been asked to write an article for an online magazine! But most of all, I’ve had a lot of fun with this blog. And I’ll continue to do this as long as I can pay for the bandwidth (yeah, I had to buy more last week). Or as long as folks come around to read.
I told Wendell the check is in the mail, but you can't buy a review like this. Thanks, sweetie.
Hoodlumman posted a sweet little greeting.
Miss Cellania, who single-handedly can compile the best and funniest things about any topic at all - and does it every single day! -Alex, Neatorama
GAG PICS
Some of my favorite means of poking fun at myself over the last year.
`
Frontier Editor caused some controversy when he Photoshopped me a fine moustache.

You can make my Muglet dance!

With the Mini-Mizer, you can make Lego people who look like people you know! This is me.

Design yourself with the Candybar Dollmaker.

Change the age, gender, or race of your face with the Perception Laboratory’s Face Transformer. I made a man out of myself.

And there’s no program that will cause this. I just wanted to show you the Naked Cowboy again!
Step right up to Miss Cellania's and discover for yourself what a blog should be like. Highly recommended. -Administrator, JTRForums
ROLL CREDITS
Thanks to Figlet for getting me interested in blogging in the first place, to Clueless in Carolina and Omegamom for inspiring me to jump in (the "me, too" reaction), to Ed and his sister Eva for lots of submissions and suggestions, to Mike, Wulfweard, and Arbroath for a ton of stolen material, to FTS for dragging me to Squarespace (just in the nick of time, it turned out), to Hoss for the help he’s given me, to Scaramouch for hiring me at slave wages for his big dog blog, to Alex at Neatorama for the traffic and encouragement, to the usual suspects for visiting and commenting every day, to my brother for the graphics (including my new banner) and video help and lots of suggestions, and to Carl, for always being there. Except for today, when he’s underwater somewhere off the coast of South America. Go figure.
Thought for today: A little message for all friends and visitors.
PS. I just received the most appropriate Blogiversary gift! Saskboy has fixed my old Blogspot site! Now people who go there can find out where the new site is! Thank you thank you thank you!
Feeds Now Available!
After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, a team of experts has found and corrected many, many errors and other bad things about my feeds. Thats a problem when you let a blonde comedian loose in the back alley of an unfamiliar site. I think you might be able to sign up for RSS and other feeds of Miss Cellania now! Give it a try, and if you encounter more problems, let me know. Thanks!

PS If you've ever wondered what I would look like with a mustache, you may now know.
Welcome to Miss Cellania
My new home!
You know how you first move into a new home, and its all empty and your voice echos against the walls? And you don't know how to open the windows, or what day the garbage is picked up? I feel a bit like that here, but will get things up and going eventually, and you are welcome to join me while I'm settling in. For those of you who don't know me, I've had a site at Miss Cellania for a few months now. Go check out some of the old stuff there, until I figure out how to bring it here. Or you can see an index of subjects at Miss Cellania 2, which is like an attic where I keep things "organized" (as it were). Meanwhile, bookmark my new address so you can visit often! Thankyouverymuch, XXXOOO,
Miss Cellania
