Thanksgiving

Thanksgivingtitle.jpgI’ll post these holiday links one day early, so you can get yourself in the mood for Thanksgiving (as if you need my help). I took a look at reposting last year’s Thanksgiving links (since hardly anyone read this site last year anyway), but found that most of them are expired. So instead of reworking the post, I’ve just taken the useful bits and destroyed what was left. Thats one Thanksgiving project; the other is in the kitchen. I’ve got four pans of cornbread ready for dressing, a dozen hard boiled eggs ready for deviling, a 20-pound turkey thawing, and a boatload of family members coming tomorrow. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Harness the Nutritional Power of Pumpkin.  (Thanks, Ed!)

When hunting for turkey, its important to use the proper ammunition. Season Shot will kill the bird and spice it up at the same time! thanksturkeycraft.gif

A collection of turkey crafts at Squirl. Most have links to the directions. H0w many of these do you remember doing? Or that you’ve done with your kids?

Mike Ashley is celebrating Thanksgiving with the Muppets! (not for children)

Hoss has a little song for the occasion. And its funny!

What would make the best parachute? Birds, of course! But duh, you might want to make it birds that can fly... and turkeys don’t! Which reminds me of...

The classic WKRP Turkey Drop promotion. (Five minute segment)

If you want to watch the entire episode, its available on YouTube, part one, part two, part three.

Here’s a pretty Thanksgiving greeting you can show the kids.

Thanksgiving Weather Forecast

Turkeys will thaw in the morning, then warm in the oven to an afternoon high near 190F. The kitchen will turn hot and humid, and if you bother the cook, be ready for a severe squall or cold shoulder.

During the late afternoon and evening, the cold front of a knife will slice through the turkey, causing an accumulation of one to two inches on plates. Mashed potatoes will drift across one side while cranberry sauce creates slippery spots on the other. Please pass the gravy.

A weight watch and indigestion warning have been issued for the entire area, with increased stuffiness around the beltway.

During the evening, the turkey will diminish and taper off to leftovers, dropping to a low of 34F in the refrigerator.
Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, high pressure to eat sandwiches will be established. Flurries of leftovers can be expected both days with a 50 percent chance of scattered soup late in the day. We expect a warming trend where soup develops. By early next week, eating pressure will be low as the only wish left will be the bone.

I've looked for this video for about a year now, the Blind Boys of Alabama doing their signature song Amazing Grace to the tune of House of the Rising Sun. It just became available last week! I reckon Thanksgiving is as good a time as any to share it with you.

Its a Redneck Thanksgiving - If...

You've ever had Thanksgiving dinner on a Ping-Pong table.

Thanksgivingnavy.JPG Thanksgiving dinner is squirrel and dumplings.

You've ever re-used a paper plate.

You have a complete set of salad bowls and they all say 'Cool Whip' on the side.

You've ever used your ironing board as a buffet table.

On Thanksgiving Day you have to decide which pet to eat.

Your turkey platter is an old hub cap.

Your best dishes have Dixie printed on them.Thankspopups.jpg

Your stuffing secret ingredient comes from the bait shop.

Your only condiment on the dining room table is ketchup.

Side dishes include beef jerky and Moon Pies.

You have to go outside to get something out of the 'fridge.

The directions to your house include "turn off the paved road".

You consider pork and beans to be a gourmet food.

You have an Elvis Jell-o mold.

Your secret family recipe is illegal.

You serve Vienna Sausage as an appetizer.

Thanksgivinggroucho.jpg Thought for today: I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land. -Jon Stewart

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! I will be doing a lot visiting. And quite possibly, not much blogging for the next few weeks. Long story.

I think I'll go rent the movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles." It's my favorite Thanksgiving movie. Everything that can possibly go wrong does, but John Candy's character always sees the brighter side of every bad situation. Should be my motif for now. I'll take note of that.

Have a wonderful one!
