Meme Time

Memetitle.pngYikes! How does this happen? I got tagged for two “memes” this week. I don’t deserve this. Y’all know there is no personal content here!

What IS a meme? In the Blogosphere, its become its own little term. This explains it a little better. In my research, I also found its pronounced “meem”, whereas I thought it could possibly be “me me”, since its usually about the writer’s personal life or views. I have a hard time believing anyone would care about my personal views, so I’ll try my best to make these a bit interesting.

Katie Schwartz went out in public and said I should do the book meme.

1 ) One book that changed your life:
Are Those Kids Yours? by Cheri Register.
This book made me think long and hard about the ethics of international adoption and how to raise children in that situation.

2) One book that you’d read more than once:
Oh, there are lots of those, especially when I was younger, but what comes to mind right now is The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart.

3 ) One book you’d want on a deserted island:
How to Build Wooden Boats by Edwin Monk. I usually read more for knowledge than for entertainment.

4) One book that made you laugh:
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

5) One book that made you cry:
Charlotte’s Web. I cried just last year, when I tried to explain to my daughters what a good book it is, and why they should read it before watching the movie. Also see #7. Night by Elie Weisel. The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosczinski. The Good Women of China, by  Xinran.

6) One book you wish you’d written:
The Harry Potter books. I haven’t read them, but duh.

7) One book you wish had never been written:
Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.

Not that I regret the book, per se, but I wish that the experience of the atomic bomb dropping on her hometown and causing her cancer had never happened.

8) One book you’re currently reading:
The Chinese in America by Iris Chang.

9) One book you’ve been meaning to read:
The Worst Person in the World by Keith Olbermann. His TV reports lately have been so remarkably honest and powerful.

10) Tag five people:
Sorry, not gonna do it. I wouldn’t put anyone through the work this involved.

Konagod went a little easier on me, since this is a photo meme,  8 Things I Find Amazing in Picture Form.
How about we set the mood with some music? Here's Maybe I'm Amazed.

 8. The universe is so big, and we are so small.

Thought for today: What really amazes me is that I got through the book meme without making big long lists of books for each item!

An amazing blog indeed. Between you, Tim, and HE, I may be able to give up television altogether. Or maybe not.

I did the book meme thing awhile ago:
http://taoofpolitics.blogspot.com/2006/09/i-was-tagged-by-debs-web-to-do-book.html

I thought about tagging you at that time, but I didn't. Aren't I a good boy? But really, I know how busy you must be and all. I liked the format of your book meme today. Also the photos of all things amazing. Have a nice day.

Beautiful children.

Great picture meme! That book one has been making the rounds for quite qwhile, but that's cool. It raised a good discussion when I did it. I'm just surprised that you haven't been tagged for that Halloween meme that's going around. Oh well. Tag!!! Yer it!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I know you don't usually do much in a personal way on your blog but when you do it is very well done, just at the rest of the blog is. Our children do grow up, don't they. Yours are beautiful as is your corner of the world. I have heard there really are no mountains east of the Mississippi River but those things behind your town sure are big hills, if not mountains.

I enjoy reading other people's meme's, but I hate doing them - LOL

Loved your book choices and explainations.

That contortionist lady makes me hurt just looking at her - LOL

Where you live IS beautiful! (And we are so tiny in this big ol' universe!)

Hong Kong - how cool!

Darfur...{{shivers}}

Communication around the world is indeed amazing! Love that you included your links map!

The kids are beautiful!

Thanks for sharing!

I'm amazed by those things too!
Your girls are gorgeous and are lucky to have you for an amazing mom!!
I'm crying right along with you about Charlotte.
I LOVE the Harry Potter books. My son is a REALLY die-hard Potter fan. He's read all the books several times, and he will be racing to get the last one when it comes out.
I WISH I would have written those books. Imagine being richer than the Queen of England??!!!! I could handle that!

Great memes. I liked them. And I'm asking the question Are they yours?" meaning the children because if so...you ARE the lucky one cause they are GORGEOUS. Wow...and photogenic so watch out, Mom, you have heartbreakers on your hands.

For gosh sakes, read the Harry Potter books! Even better, read them to your kids!
10.21.06 @ 04:24PM | Unregistered CommenterBrother Bill
Yes, Monica, they are mine. Everywhere I go, people talk about how grown up they are. Time flies the fastest when you are watching kids grow!

I'm amazed to just find out what MEME's are and how you pronounce it! I don't do them either. I just let people know things about places I have been and what I found interesting about each and every one of them. As for the shot of Hong Kong... THAT's AWESOME! I want to go there NOW! ~ jb///

I can't believe you got a hit from Africa.

That picture of the woman with her feet next to her head has me a bit worked up.

I've only read 2 books in my life. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and that Fred the mailman story.

"No personal content here?" That's why you get tagged twice in a week, Miss C.

I don't tag either. Well done. And I can do that thing with my legs over the head, I just don't want to.

I was tagged for the book meme a while back. I finally relented and posted on Sat. 10/21.

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy made my list also.
